Had only been to Yakitori Totto once before for lunch last year, which was a good experience. But wanted to try them out again for dinner since I was in the area, and it had been a long time. And it did not disappoint! I had a great experience!
First, I was eating solo, which is not always easy for some places. Sometimes, the seating placement isn't great, the ambiance can be too loud, or the waiter might focus on a bigger party, but not my case. It was empty since I came around 4-5pm. I'm sure at dinner or the weekend, it gets busier, so might be good to make a reservation. My server, Grun, was very attentive, prompt with food and service, and even put a lamp at one of my tables since I was eating solo and it was getting dark. Great vibe for New England winters. The restaurant also has a feel of a Japanese restaurant with its wood and bottles and setup, which I thought was nice. And lastly, 2 clean bathrooms, which is something that most diners don't notice but I do.
With that in mind, I got a few appetizers and skewers. I really loved the Japanese tamago omelette and the combo skewers. Everything was cooked fresh in front of me. I can see it getting pricey if you get a lot of food and alcohol, but getting a few skewers and appetizers was only $40. I'll def be back if I am in the area solo or for a date. I just love unique places with variety that you can share. All about the experience and this place delivered!
The tofu dessert was out of the world. We were fighting to get one more spoonful of the tender dessert. It was not overly sweet and fruit garnish was just the right amount too.
The miso soup was good. The edamame was cooked perfectly. The beef skewers were nicely done and flavorful with the good amount of marbiling. I loved the long grilled shrimp tooo.
Overall it was a good experience.
Came here on a Saturday night with a group of friends. The seating was comfortable for the number of people we had, and the overall ambiance was nice: dimly lit, not too loud, friendly staff.
Overall, the food was not as good as we had hoped, even though we were all craving yakitori and thought that /anything/ would have hit the spot. The main issue was that everything was way too salty. Granted, we had just come back from Japan, but even after lowering our expectations knowing that nothing could be as good as the real deal, we were still disappointed. However, the meats were cooked well so we enjoyed the textures, and the presentation was also nice. Honestly, the only thing we enjoyed were the drinks, which all have creative names as well. We spent almost $500 total after tax and tip.
Would we come back? Probably not. But it was a nice spot to eat out with friends as a one-time experience since there aren't that many yakitori places in Boston.
The food here is amazing. I used to go to ittoku for izakaya japanese skewers and drinks. This is a nice place in Assembly. Good bbq skewers.
Take the orange line to assembly or park by the road or lot.
The chicken skewers are the best. Chicken skin so crispy. Rice bowl was also filling.
The drinks were also super tasty.
Cozy intimate space. Little tight you can hear ur neighbors talk and hear what to order next.
The service is great. Super friendly and welcoming.
Food is good, but quite expensive. Nice location in assembly. Service was decent. Wish they had pork belly. The chicken skin is very good. So was the unagi. The beef ones were ok.
Food is pretty good but nothing special. The chicken heart was kinda dry but the chicken heart valve was pretty good.
The negi tora don with thigh meat was good but not spicy as advertised. It was mostly sweet. I think if you go in knowing that, then it's one of the best things along with the heart valves.
First time at a restaurant like this and was surprised I enjoyed every minute of it. The food was delicious loved the atmosphere our server was amazing!!!! 🙏🏼❤️
This place has been my go-to spot for yakitori skewers in Boston.
Since they are in Assembly Row, the place doesn’t get crowded that often, and I really liked the relaxed casual vibe during my past few visits. As a yakitori specialty chain, they do a great job with most of their skewers, but they seem to do chicken and seafood skewers better than anything else. Pork and beef skewers were a bit dry sometimes, but the variety of toppings and dipping sauces definitely made them better. Standout dishes from the non-skewer selections include the nasu mizore gake, negi tori don, and the una ju. If you’re a fan of authentic Japanese bar food classics, I would highly recommend giving them a try.
